Learning to defend yourself is about more than simply wielding a weapon.  The truth is that amateurs who have weapons end up getting hurt with them more often than predators do - and that's a real problem.  There's no point in arming yourself if you're not also in the right condition to be able to act if you or someone you love is threatened.

Our Women's Self-Defense Workshop teaches you about general self-defense priorities and how to build your body's natural reactions to being attacked and giving you the tools - and the strength - to disarm and defeat your opponents.  As you train, you'll build stamina and hone your reflexes.

SELF-DEFENSE FROM POTENTIAL ATTACKS

Have you ever felt threatened, or maybe had fear that you were going to be attacked?  In today's violent world and a fear we want you to overcome.  Nobody wants to be a victim of a crime, and yet it happens to people every day.  The best way to avoid being harmed is to know how to defend yourself.  We at BirdsNest want you to feel better knowing that you'll possess a skill that can save you, or a loved one.

Weather it's a stranger on the street, the local thugs, or a trespasser in  your home, you will be equipped with the skills to effectively keep you and your loved ones out of harm's way.

PRACTICAL SELF- DEFENSE AT ITS BEST

One of the hardest things about learning self-defense is overcoming your natural "fight or flight" instincts. 

Our instructors teach you key self-defense priorities:

  • Protect your CPU (brain).  Headshots will usually slow you down in a way that if you take one shot, you will likely take many shots.
  • Free your Tools (hands up) without escalating the situation.  Raise your hands in a non-threatening language.
  • Convey the correct body language using your posture.  Your eyes should be facing forward, shoulders back, feet apart, and hands up.  Eye contact is very intimidating to an attacker.
  • Do not appear "aggressive".  Don't fight if you don't have to.  Make it apparent to onlookers that you don't want to fight, and that you are not the instigator of the conflict.  Self-defense also means legal defense in the aftermath of an altercation.
  • Use language to avoid physical conflict.  Make the apparent effort a warning such as " Calm Down Sir, I'm Sorry", "Stay Away, Get Back!", "Leave Me Alone or I will hurt you!", or "Your Going Down!".
  • When the threat starts, YOU ACT.  When the threat ends, YOU MUST STOP your aggression.
